Laurel Purchase, LCSW

Laurel is the founder of Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C. and has been in private practice for more than 25 years. She is licensed by the State of Virginia to diagnose and treat individuals who suffer from emotional, psychiatric, and substance abuse issues. She is also recognized by the judicial system as an "expert" witness in her field.

Laurel is an approved Employee Assistance Provider. She works with employees on a variety of issues that include family and marital issues, substance abuse, depression, stress management, and employee/management issues. She also offers drug screening programs for local employers.

Laurel has worked and trained at Johns Hopkins University, Medical College of Virginia Hospital, University of Virginia Hospital, and Rubicon Therapeutic Community Substance Abuse Center. Laurel has taught classes at the Psychiatric Institute of Richmond and at Charter Westbrook Hospital. She is also a certified Hypnotherapist by the American Board of Hypnotherapy.

Terry specializes in Family Therapy with client issues of depression, mood disorders, substance abuse, parenting and relationships' issues.

She serves as Clinical Care Management Supervisor at Tucker Pavilion. Terry currently is a counselor with Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C. and is licensed by the State of Virginia to diagnose and treat individuals who suffer from emotional, psychaitric, and substance abuse issues.

     
     
 

Christine Sutherland, LCSW

Christine has experience working as a Juvenile Probation Counselor, Family Mediator and with an inpatient psychiatry unit at a Veterans Administration Medical Center. During her work with Vanderbilt Mental Health Center in Nashville, TN, she worked with adults, children, couples and families. She also trained in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing techniques and presented on the subject at a national conference. Christine is licensed by the State of Virginia to diagnose and treat groups, families, couples, and individuals. She currently is a counselor with Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C.

Amanda has experience in working with substance abusers in many different capacities. She has worked as treatment counselor for adolescent males and adults in an outpatient and residential setting.

She currently is state-certified as a substance abuse counselor for Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C. and serves as Residential Supervisor of the Independent Living Program.

Gloria is certified by the State of Virginia to provide therapy and counseling services to individuals who suffer from substance abuse problems. Her specialty at Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C. is working with the unique problems that women face with their addictions.

Dwight has 18 years of experience in working with sex offenders and violent offenders, both a correctional setting and in the community. He currently maintains a private forensic psychology practice after setting up Virginia's highly successful Community Corrections sex offender program. He travels extensively putting on workshops related to violent behavior and communication processes for law enforcement and probation/parole officers. He is also an adjunct instructor in psychology for Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA.
