Laurel Purchase, LCSW

Laurel is the founder of Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C. and has been in private practice for more than 25 years. She is licensed by the State of Virginia to diagnose and treat individuals who suffer from emotional, psychiatric, and substance abuse issues. She is also recognized by the judicial system as an "expert" witness in her field.

Laurel is an approved Employee Assistance Provider. She works with employees on a variety of issues that include family and marital issues, substance abuse, depression, stress management, and employee/management issues. She also offers drug screening programs for local employers.

Laurel has worked and trained at Johns Hopkins University, Medical College of Virginia Hospital, University of Virginia Hospital, and Rubicon Therapeutic Community Substance Abuse Center. Laurel has taught classes at the Psychiatric Institute of Richmond and at Charter Westbrook Hospital. She is also a certified Hypnotherapist by the American Board of Hypnotherapy.

Fred provides both administrative and clinical duties. He is in charge of bids, program changes, marketing, and Human Resource management. Fred obtained an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and works closely with both state and federal probation and parole in addition to social service agencies.

Fred is state-certified as a substance abuse counselor for Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C .  He also provides services at our various satellite offices.

     
     
   

Danika Briggs, LCSW

Danika has extensive training and experience working in social services with adults, children and families who have been impacted by trauma, particularly physical and sexual abuse, neglect, domestic violence and/or substance abuse. She is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to diagnose and treat individuals who suffer from emotional, psychiatric, and substance abuse issues.  In addition to providing individual and family counseling, Danika provides mental health, parenting and substance abuse assessments.

Jennifer provides administrative support to all counselors and executives of the Behavioral Awareness Center, P.C. She works in both Accounts Payable and Receivable and handles all delinquent account negotiations and legal collection procedures.

Jennifer is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Notary Public. She is also under supervision to obtain her certification as a substance abuse counselor.

Tressy has extensive experience working with adults in the State Corrections system.  She has provided mental health services to inmates including services including crisis intervention.  She is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to diagnose and treat individuals who suffer from emotional, psychiatric, and substance abuse issues.

Teresa has extensive training and experience working with a wide range of clients with mental health issues and sexual dysfunctions. Teresa is Certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Counseling as a Sex Offender Treatment Provider. Teresa is currently working to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Spencer has been working as a clinician for 25 years. As a therapist, Spencer has worked in both inpatient and outpatient facilities. He also operated his own successful practice in Southern Virginia for 15 years before making the move to Richmond to be a part of the team at the Behavioral Awareness Center, PC. Spencer specializes in providing mental health and substance abuse services to individuals, couples, and groups. Spencer also has experience in crisis intervention and critical incident stress debriefings.
